Cloudy skies and scattered flurries

A cool upper trough of low pressure will persist over the south coast mountains today maintaining cloudy skies and scattered flurries over the Alpine area today. A very weak ridge of high pressure will develop over the region Monday and support dry conditions for the end of the long weekend.
However there is an increasing chance of precipitation Monday night as a weak Pacific front moves onshore.

Today..Mainly cloudy with a few flurries.
Snowfall amounts 1 to 2 cm.
Alpine high minus 1.
Freezing level rising to 1700 metres.
Mountain top winds light.

Tonight..Mainly cloudy. 40 percent chance of evening flurries.
Snowfall amounts trace.
Alpine low minus 4.
Freezing level lowering to 1300 metres.
Mountain top winds light.

Monday..Mainly cloudy.
Alpine high zero.
Freezing level rising to 1800 metres.
Mountain top winds southeast 20 km/h.

5 Day Trend..A slow moving low offshore will send a series of weak frontal systems towards the south coast mountains. Freezing levels will remain sufficiently low Tuesday and Wednesday such that precipitation will likely be mixed with snow in the Alpine.

Tuesday..Cloudy with a 60 percent chance of rain or snow.
Rainfall amounts 2 mm. Snowfall amounts 2 cm.
Freezing level 1900 metres.

Wednesday..Cloudy with a 70 percent chance of rain or snow.
Rainfall amounts 5 mm. Snowfall amounts 5 cm.
Freezing level 2000 metres.

Thursday..Cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers.
Freezing level 2400 metres.
