Olympic Storm

A frontal system will approach the region today bringing precipitation and higher freezing levels. A trailing low pressure centre will track across Vancouver Island from the southwest overnight giving strong winds and more precipitation.

A series of frontal systems will move across the South Coast over the weekend bringing some heavier precipitation. A general drying trend will begin on Monday as the ridge of high pressure returns to the region.

Snowfall amount 10 cm.
Alpine temperature steady near minus 2.
Freezing level steady near 1400 metres.
Mountain top winds southeast 40 to 60 km/h increasing to 60 to 90 km/h overnight.

Friday.. Periods of snow tapering to flurries near noon.
Snowfall accumulation 5 to 10 cm.
Alpine temperature falling to minus 5 in the afternoon.
Freezing level lowering to 1100 metres in the afternoon.
Mountain top winds becoming southwest 30 in the morning then decreasing to light late in the day.

Saturday.. Periods of snow. Windy.
Snowfall amount 10 to 20 cm.
Freezing level 1500 metres.

Sunday.. Periods of snow ending.
Snowfall amount 15 to 25 cm.
Freezing level 1100 metres.

Monday.. A mix of sun and cloud. 30 percent chance of flurries.
Freezing level 1100 metres.
