Storm on the way

High cloud is invading the region as a warm front brushes the coast accompanied by rising freezing levels. The cold front is forecast to arrive tonight bringing rain initially. Precipitation will rapidly change to snow in the alpine and significant accumulations are expected tonight and Thursday.

Today..Increasing cloudiness.
Alpine temperature steady near plus 4.
Freezing level 2500 metres.
Mountain top winds southeast 20 km/h increasing this afternoon to 40 to 60.

Tonight..Rain changing to snow this evening.
Alpine low near zero.
Rainfall amounts 5 mm. Snowfall accumulation 5 to 10 cm.
Freezing level 2500 metres lowering to 1800 metres near midnight.
Mountain top winds southeast 40 to 60 km/h becoming south 50 to 80 around midnight.

Thursday..Snow heavy at times.
Alpine temperature steady near zero.
Snowfall accumulation 20 to 30 cm.
Freezing level 1900 metres.
Mountain top winds south 50 to 80 km/h.

5 Day Trend..A cool and moist onshore flow will prevail through the weekend which will result in periods of snow.

Friday.. Snow. Windy. Snowfall accumulation 15 to 25 cm.
Freezing level lowering to 1000 metres.

Saturday.. Snow. Snowfall accumulation 10 to 20 cm.
Freezing level 1000 metres.

Sunday.. Cloudy with sunny periods. 60 percent chance of snow.
Snowfall accumulation up to 5 cm. Freezing level 1000 metres.
