Snow heavy at times above 1600m

A vigorous frontal system will approach the south coast tonight and move east of the region of Monday. The system will bring snow heavy at times to higher elevation inland areas and moderate to heavy rain at lower elevations and the northshore mountains.

Freezing levels will lower somewhat overnight and Monday and precipitation will ease Monday afternoon as the system moves inland.

Tonight..Snow heavy at times.
Alpine temperature plus 2 lowering to minus 2.
Snowfall accumulation near 20 cm.
Freezing level 1600 metres lowering to 1200 metres overnight.
Mountain top winds southerly 30 to 50 km/h.

Monday..Snow heavy at times easing in the afternoon.
Alpine temperature steady near minus 2.
Snowfall accumulation 10 to 15 cm.
Freezing level 1200 metres rising to 1400 metres.
Mountain top winds rising to southeast 60 to 90 km/h in the morning and easing southerly 40 to 60 km/h in the afternoon.


Tuesday.. Cloudy with morning flurries. Afternoon sunny periods.
Snowfall accumulation 2 to 5 cm.
Freezing level valley bottom rising to 1300 metres.

Wednesday.. Cloudy with sunny periods. Chance of flurries.
Snowfall accumulation trace to 3 cm.
Freezing level valley bottom rising to 1500 metres.

Thursday..Mainly cloudy.
Snowfall accumulation 3 to 5 cm.
Freezing level valley bottom rising to 1200 metres.

5 Day Trend.. A weak ridge of high pressure will build over the area on Tuesday. However bands of moisture associated with an upper low pressure system to the southwest will give scattered showers or flurries from time to time. The upper ridge will become more established on Wednesday but will give way to a weak system moving southward from the Gulf of Alaska on Thursday.
